Communicating quality and expectation was the goal in designing the new Onyx retail package. Using texture, architecture and layers within the branding to mimic the complexity and quality we hope to induce in packaging. Matte earth tone colors are printed on biodegradable bags and boxes that achieve maximum expectations with minimal footprints. The “box & bag” concept creates a personal experience and intentional feeling of unboxing a gift. This projects a physical experience with each purchase setting an expectation before brewing.

The box is coated in a soft touch tactile and depth is given by embossing the top and debossing the bottom giving three planes of existence to the face of the box. Light dances, shadows are made and each angle gives a new window into the beauty of the pressed paper. This again manifests the complexity and ever changing flavor profiles of coffee. The true intersection between art and science.
From a practical standpoint, most of Onyx coffee is shipped around the world and this box also has a strong rigidity to prevent breakage and cut down on thick glue/milled cardboard shippers. The box also becomes reusable for future coffee storage or inventive collections.
