We never understood why to-go tumblers made design decisions that compromised the coffee drinking experience. The senses–taste, smell, and touch—were ignored, while durability and heat retention were prioritized. Why not both?

That is the problem our team set out to solve with Carter Move Mug. We wanted to make a portable vessel as covetable as your favorite coffee mug at home. During the design process, every to-go tumbler, travel mug, and reusable cup on the market crossed the desks of our product team for inspection. From hundreds of 3D prints to hand studies with users to having every team member use different prototypes while commuting. In the end, we landed on a beautifully functional form that amplifies the senses while still engineered to fit your travel needs. Yes, Carter does both.

First, the sensory experience. The form was chosen to optimize the sensory experience with a thin lip inspired by a Cabernet glass for palate dispersal and an open mouth that lets you access coffee’s full aroma and gauge the temperature before you drink. We also added True Taste ceramic coating on the inside to protect your brew from odors, oils, and old penny tasting notes common with stainless steel lined vessels.

Second, the portability. With a cup holder-friendly width and equipped with a snap-in splash guard to save your brew from sudden stops, you’re officially in the clear to caffeinate on your commute. With a satisfying “click” and tactical interaction, we aimed to create a moment of magic for the user with the snap-in splash guard. We were also inspired by the user’s movement while carrying Carter and wanted to reflect that spirit through the radial pattern on the splash guard.

Capturing the best of both worlds, Carter Move Mug brings form and function to enjoying coffee.
