A great package design is critical when it comes to pronouncing your brand virtues, to differentiate in-store, and to communicate key attributes of your product. It needs to impel a consumer to reach for it on the shelf.

Bringing that design to life takes technical expertise and excellent manufacturing execution. From choosing the package structure to reproducing the design on the press, everything matters when creating a great coffee package.

Working with our customer Distant Lands Coffee, Albertsons Companies introduced a new top-shelf brand called Signature Reserve™. This distinguished line is aimed at life’s special and indulgent moments keeping quality and exceptional taste in mind, reflected in the packaging design.

The Signature Reserve packages represent innovation for our customer, elegant design and valuable education for consumers clearly calling out the product features. Utilizing gold inks and rich colors brings the luxury feel of the brand to life and connects the consumer with the product and its story.

Innovation: Sustainable value for our customer: The structure of the Signature Reserve package was created and developed to meet our customer’s source reduction goals by minimizing waste, with an approximate 12% reduction in material consumption from normal market materials.

Design: The aesthetic appeal is achieved using surface technology plates at 133 LPI (lines per inch), 4000 resolution flexographic printing, allowing us to run with minimal ink and energy use. The gold ink and overlay print on various backgrounds achieves image detail rivaling any rotogravure printed package, creating a high-quality luxurious look.

Education: The package is designed to entice consumers to learn more about their coffee purchase. A regional map depicts where the coffee is from. Individual stories are given for each origin, connecting the consumer to the farm. A flavor profile printed on the package, similar to wine, further reinforces the experience of luxury and discerning taste.
