Dekáf was created to challenge the way decaffeinated coffee is typically presented within specialty coffee. In many cases, decaf appears as an obvious secondary option with little variety/visual presence. The goal of the design was to tell a new story about decaf, and in a way, reclaim its worth as a category that deserves exploration and care.

From the beginning, our visual identity was designed to support a full lineup of decaffeinated coffees. From single origins and signature blends, to limited-edition releases, the system maintains visual clarity and cohesion across the collection. The structure allows for each coffee to stand on its own while still belonging to a recognizable and consistent brand language. This was especially important as our coffee range expanded. The design needed to remain flexible without requiring constant reinvention.

The aesthetic approach draws inspiration from the quiet rituals of coffee itself. The calmness, intentionality, and unhurried pace of the experience. Dekáf’s designs favor a restrained palette, while upholding the message that: Yes! Decaf can be bold!

Simple typographic hierarchy and a system that prioritizes readability and product transparency allow for important coffee information to be presented clearly so that customers can explore the coffees confidently.

At its core, the design reflects the philosophy behind the brand. Coffee can be appreciated for flavor, craftsmanship, and experience, without the caffeine. By presenting decaffeinated coffees with the same visual care and depth as the rest of the specialty coffee world, the design invites drinkers to slow down, discover new profiles, and engage with decaf in a new way.

Dekáf’s design addresses a longstanding perception problem within specialty coffee that decaf is secondary.

While many coffee brands present decaf as an overlooked option, sometimes visually separated from a core lineup, Dekáf seeks to reverse that narrative. We want to give decaf a story.

Our visual identity was intentionally developed as a flexible system that can support an expanding lineup of coffees without requiring frequent redesigns. By creating a consistent structure for single origins, signature blends, and limited/seasonal releases, new coffees can be introduced while maintaining the same packaging foundation. This approach reduces unnecessary design turnover while reinforcing a stable and recognizable brand presence. Rather than distinguishing decaf as “different,” Dekáf’s designs integrate it naturally into the broader language of specialty coffee.

Sustainability is also reflected in the values communicated through our designs. Dekáf exclusively roasts coffees that have been decaffeinated using the Swiss Water® Process. The chemical-free method aligns with Dekáf’s emphasis on transparent and responsible sourcing.

More broadly, Dekáf promotes a slower and more intentional coffee culture. By centering decaf as a full specialty experience rather than something secondary, we encourage people to appreciate coffee for its flavor, ritual, and shared experience. In this way, our design communicates sustainability not only through materials and production methods, but through a philosophy of mindful enjoyment and lasting brand identity.
