We started sunday coffee project out of a desire to share what has long been our family’s favorite day. Coffee is what we do, but we wanted to find creative ways to incorporate other parts of our Sundays into the branding and packaging experience. Cereal was a Sunday staple of our childhood and is now a staple of our own kids’ lives as well. As an homage to that, we decided to present our coffee in cereal boxes. The boxes combine nostalgic and playful elements with a modern and simple feel that creates a point of connection for everyone.

The box should nostalgically connect with adults by transporting them back to their childhood, hopefully reminding them of eating copious amounts of cereal while watching cartoons. The bunny character and game elements are playful and interactive to allow kids to engage with a product that is traditionally only marketed to adults. We also made creative plays on traditional elements of a cereal box. We took what is traditionally the brand logo in the top left corner (i.e. Post, Kellogg’s) and turned it into our Roasted in Pdx Bridge. We transformed the nutritional facts side panel into a Sunday checklist and swapped out a bar code for a QR code on the back. We then rounded out and refined a very playful and young concept with clean lines and keeping things simple. Often cereal boxes feel very chaotic and full of never-ending design elements.

We intentionally used negative space and clean lines to give our childlike concept a coming-of-age. Finally, we as many people as possible to be able to find a piece of themselves in our box. Between the nostalgia that the cereal box invokes, the multitasking bunny, and the activities in our Sunday checklist, we hope everyone can identify somewhere within our design.
