For the past 6 years, we have had a yearly project where we collaborate with local, talented artists to create designs for limited-edition coffee bags. These projects are fun, creative, and add a lot of value both for everyone involved and for everyone enjoying the final products of our collaborations. With our newest designs, we wanted to highlight the complexities of the flavors in coffee through visual expression, as well as offer aesthetically appealing works of art to enjoy both in your local coffee shop and on your shelves at home.
The process of designing the artwork for these bags included a sensory cupping where we used colors and shapes to paint our interpretations of the flavors of the coffees we were tasting. Our chosen artist, Renate Thor, then used our final paintings from this cupping to create a visual language of shapes and colors that capture the different aspects of the flavors of coffee very well.
The overall experience of designing these specific bags was fun and creative for us all. From the very start of the idea of the concept to the execution of the sensory cupping with our whole team that laid the groundwork for the design itself - to the launch of the bags and seeing them on the shelf and being shipped out to excited customers. We feel this offers a special layer to the coffee experience as a whole.
