Hometown Cafe Subic Bay
The new Hometown Cafe wants to be a homage to the Subic Bay of the past – as the American Naval Base in the Philippines.
Hometown Cafe is a mid-century inspired cafe that references American-Filipino nostalgia from the 1950s and 1960s. This space is reminiscent of a classic American diner, while infusing new elements for a contemporary touch. The design embraces wood elements, warm colors, clean lines, and the timeless appeal of modernism— offering guests a homey experience in a space where the past and present seamlessly merge.
The main dining area is the heart of the cafe, featuring a mix of communal dining and more conversational slow-bar seating. The marquee-inspired menu above the bar is also an homage to the main building’s past as Subic’s go-to cinema.
Like any extension of a home, truthful materiality and utility is of the essence. Full-veneered walls and handmade clay-tiled flooring provide the Subic Bay familiarity and warmth; mixed with stainless steel surfaces, a sleek classic diner is achieved. The shop is beautiful, convenient and effective.
