DOMA Coffee Roasting Company received a very small, very special lot of Gesha during the summer of 2020. We saw the limited quantity as an opportunity to do something a little different with the packaging. DOMA has always been about three principles: Coffee, Culture, and Meaning. We prepared this project as an embodiment of each of these principles. The coffee, with a sweet and floral taste, tea-like body and sparkling acidity, was wonderful and absolutely in line with our dedication to roast quality coffee. It is available because of the great relationships we have with the people and locations that produce the coffees we roast. DOMA has a 20-year history of collaboration and support for our artist community. To produce a package up to the task of holding the Gesha, we turned to a local artist who is as passionate about his craft as we are about the roasted coffee and as our growers are about the green coffee they produce.

Jeff Weir has preserved his grandmother’s legacy of oil panting in his own modern-day works. Above his studio workbench, Jeff has a hand-made catalogue of paint colors that his grandmother created. Each dab of color was created, thought on, and meticulously saved. He used, and continues to use, her colors as a foundation as he created the painting that would become the can wraps for our coffee. We were thrilled to showcase his work on our 2020 Gesha coffee can. Each can was wrapped in a one-of-a-kind piece of art cut from an original 17’ x 5’ canvas painted by Jeff Weir. The project was extremely limited and special, and we are proud to have been able to present the excellent coffee we received in such an amazing package.
