Our goal for this Panama Geisha La Esmeralda was for the design on the outside of the package to reflect the life and culture of the people who produced this exceptional coffee. It was important that we create something that would convey to the customer that this was a truly extra special offering - above and beyond any coffee we had sold up until that point. We also needed to ensure that the package would fit in with our regular lineup and retain the "Colectivo Look and Feel".

The art was inspired by the prized Mola artwork of the Kuna people from Panama and parts of Colombia. Molas are an intricate textile craft characterized by tiny stitches, bold designs, and bright colors. They are traditionally used to make up the panels of blouses worn by Kuna women in their national dress. I followed the general practices used by Mola artists in creating the art for this package.
