As Pirates, we love to find and share unique treasures with The Crew. To showcase the excellent competition-level Panama Geisha coffee produced by our Panamanian partners, Abu Coffee and Hacienda La Esmeralda, we decided to present the coffees as a treasure box. We wanted our design to pay respect to the Panama origin. The design of the treasure box and each coffee is inspired by Mola art which originated in Panama in the 15th century. The indigenous Guna people in Panama initially painted Mola art on their bodies and they later utilized the designs on clothing. Our design process took inspiration from Mola geometrical patterns and abstract elements of nature such as the sun and flowers. Our designs pay homage to the origin of the coffees in this treasure box by respecting the art, history, culture and traditions of Panama. Another goal we set for ourselves was to evoke a sensory experience before the coffees were opened. Since each coffee is unique, we designed each label to have a parallel unique identity. The colour palette chosen for each coffee label is where the sensory experience of each coffee begins. The colours and patterns chosen for each label are a preview of the fragrance, aroma and cup experience that lies ahead.
