Elevaria
Elevaria Café was designed with the intention of elevating the everyday coffee experience while strengthening specialty coffee culture in Trujillo, Peru. Although Peru is one of the world’s most important coffee-producing countries, many cities remain disconnected from the origin and craftsmanship behind each cup. The design of Elevaria seeks to bridge that gap by creating a space where coffee, design, and community converge.
The project was conceived as more than a café. It functions as a sensory environment where guests can slow down, observe the preparation of coffee, and reconnect with the agricultural origins of the beverage. The central coffee bar was intentionally designed as the focal point of the space, allowing visitors to experience coffee preparation as both craft and performance.
The design draws inspiration from the landscapes where coffee is grown. Natural materials, earthy tones, and the integration of vegetation reference the coffee plant and its environment. Olive green hues evoke coffee leaves, while neutral mineral colors reflect soil and natural textures. These elements create a calm and grounded atmosphere that contrasts with the fast pace of the city.
Soft architectural curves and illuminated arches guide movement through the café, creating a spatial journey from the entrance toward the coffee bar and seating areas. This progression was designed to encourage discovery and interaction with the space.
Ultimately, Elevaria aims to transform coffee from a simple beverage into a cultural and sensory experience—one that celebrates origin, craftsmanship, and the community that forms around a shared cup.
Sustainability is an integral value behind the design of Elevaria Café, expressed through both the material choices and the philosophy of the space.
The design prioritizes durable, natural, and timeless materials that age well and reduce the need for frequent replacement. Wood, ceramic surfaces, woven textures, and neutral mineral tones were selected not only for their aesthetic warmth but also for their longevity and low environmental impact compared to more synthetic finishes. The intention was to create a space that feels lasting rather than disposable.
Vegetation also plays a meaningful role in the design. Plants are integrated throughout the café to reinforce the connection between coffee and the ecosystems where it grows. This visual presence of greenery serves as a constant reminder that coffee is an agricultural product deeply tied to nature, climate, and land stewardship.
Another aspect of sustainability lies in the spatial design itself. The café was designed to maximize natural light and maintain an open, breathable layout that reduces reliance on excessive artificial elements while creating a comfortable environment for guests.
Beyond materials and architecture, the sustainability message is also cultural. Elevaria operates as a specialty coffee space that actively promotes traceability, origin awareness, and respect for coffee producers. The design supports this mission by placing the coffee preparation area at the center of the experience, allowing guests to witness the craft behind each cup and encouraging deeper appreciation for the value chain of coffee.
In this way, the design communicates sustainability not only as an environmental concern, but as a broader philosophy that connects nature, producers, craftsmanship, and conscious consumption.
