When we came up with the idea of a new design for our El Gato Specialty Coffee we wanted to create something that would make the customer feel really unique and well-informed. We wanted to educate clients as much as possible about the coffee origin, processing, varietals, and the story of the people behind the scene. Moreover, the plan was to create a packaging from minimal material, in order to avoid leaving empty space in the box. The packaging needs to be appropriately robust to avoid becoming misshapen when handled during retail. Our concept was to create an aesthetically pleasing product using a minimalist approach.

We have created and developed an original and unique design concept - the #mycoffeebelt idea. Each coffee is packed in a flat-bottomed package with a white circle sticker stating key information, such as farm of origin and how the coffee was processed. This package is then introduced into a kraft paper box and completed with a printed outer sleeve. The sleeve states the country of origin with some culturally significant design such as local people or landmarks. These designs help transport the customer to that different culture where the coffee originated. On the other side of sleeve there is a one of three different continents within the coffee belt. On the back of the sleeve the customer will be able to read information regarding the coffee farm, altitude, tasting notes, etc.
By collecting a different coffee from each continent, customers can create their own personalized coffee belt - #mycoffeebelt. The project will go much further in the future as our range will be extended to represent all coffee producing countries. Thanks to this incredible collection, customers will be able to create a vast number of coffee belts - #mycoffeebelt’s.
